MINUTES OF PAA MEETING SEPTEMBER 3, 2008
Attendance: Marie J. Meehan, Renee Llorente, Elaine Poretta, Cindy Fitzgerald, Julie Kogel, Liz Babeu, Don Viselli, Jill Daamen, Trish McNamara, Larry Fisher, Kevin Sullivan, Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Nolan, Laurie LeBlanc, Joe D’Amore, Marie Pinzone, Chris Pinzone, Tracy Gilford, Dan Thornton, Mr. and Mrs. Martin
Larry Fisher started off the meeting by talking about all booster groups working together with PAA in order to avoid conflicts with fundraisers. There was a discussion about a calendar to be put on PAA website of all fundraisers approved by PAA so that someone planning a fundraiser could look on this calendar to avoid a conflict.
DAN THORNTON
Coaching positions: there was a discussion about the varsity boys’ soccer team wanting someone to help out. Coach went to outside people for funding. This cannot happen. You can go before the school committee with donated money for the position and the school committee has to approve it. Booster groups cannot pay for coaching positions. You can be a volunteer for $50 or less and you have to complete a CORI form.
Spinathon – September 13th (THIS HAS NOW BEEN POSTPONED TO NOVEMBER 14, 2008) @ Latitude Gym in Salisbury. Monies raised go to Triton, Amesbury, Newbury and Pentucket to help in the fight against child obesity. SEE ATTACHED INFORMATION SHEET.
Steve Derro requested an artificial turf runway for track @ cost of $980—can be used indoors as well.
Issues at school: press box is falling apart; trainer’s room has been taken by Special Ed so trainer is in a closet between main gym and small gym; football/soccer field needs maintenance (there was a discussion about not fixing fields because they might be used with regard to expanding the high school buildings;
Anna Jacques donates a certain amount of money every year for athletics – Last year wrestling and softball uniforms were purchased with money. Jill Daamen going to contact Anna Jacques this year.
Chris Pinzone is in charge of the concession stand and was looking for volunteers. He informed us that benches at concession stand in bad shape. There was discussion about getting kids in Tech Ed to build new ones. The refrigerator is in bad shape—beginning to rust. Was going to look in the newspaper for a used one. Laurie LeBlanc mentioned that there was one at the Shanahan Field in Groveland. Larry Fisher thought he might be able to get one.
FUNDRAISING:
Larry Fisher has been talking about having a website that sells apparel with Pentucket logo i.e. sweatshirts, hats, t-shirts etc.
Joe D’Amore spoke about a group that he started in Feb 2007 with other soccer parents entitled “Go Pentucket Soccer.” They helped get the freshman soccer program in place last year. They have sponsored tournaments and have held camps and have donated $1,000 to PAA. His website is selling Pentucket apparel already. He encouraged everyone to check it out. Discussed forming a committee to resurrect the school store to perhaps sell apparel.
Talked about a possible golf tournament for alumni to raise money.
Fundraising through Alumni:
Tracy Gilford from the Class of 1981 was present and talked about getting the alumni more involved and trying to alumni to pledge money.
This year marks the 50th anniversary for Pentucket High School. There will be an open house at the high school on September 14, 2008 from 4-6 p.m.
Is trying to organize a reunion next July for all Pentucket alumni. Needs 350 people to commit to Cederdale.
Thought the purchase of a banner commemorating 50 years sponsored by PAA, Performing Arts and Scholarship Foundation would be appropriate and could be used at different functions.
Talked about a pancake breakfast on Thanksgiving Day sponsored by former classes.
SPORT BOOKS:
The Sport books are completed and will be ready by September 20th. We voted to only order
300 books this year.
SODA MACHINE:
Kevin Sullivan informed us that he’s been doing a lot of work for a little money (about $400) with the soda machine. We voted to shut down the soda machines.
