MINUTES OF PAA MEETING October 14, 2009
Attendance: Larry Fisher, Marie J. Meehan, Dan Thornton, Renee Llorente, Elaine Poretta, Marie Pinzone, Liz Babeu, Ivars Jacobsons, Laurie LeBlanc, Monique Swansen and Kathy Porter
Spinathon: Spinathon is on hold at the moment. The owner of Latitude now wants 10 teams from each school or he is not going to run the Spinathon. Pentucket had teams but the other schools had little or no interest.
Press Box: Larry Fisher and Greg Hadden met with Thomas Hopkins, Director of the Handicapped Board in Boston. There is no waiver for the handicap accessibility problem. There needs to be an elevator (cost approximately $35,000) or a 160’ ramp (20’ landing, 20’ landing etc.) on the structure (there is a border issue and we don’t think a ramp would fit). If the structure is erected without the handicap accessibility, there is a $1,000/day fine and the board could pursue criminal charges. Discussion was had about using funds from a PAA account that has approximately $32,000 in it. These funds were raised several years ago to put lights on the football field. The latest estimation for lights is $150,000.00.
Track behind Middle School: The track behind the Middle School cannot be used in its present state. Cape Ann Track looked at the track and tennis courts and will be giving Dan Thornton a quote to replace.
Fundraisers: Girls Field Hockey is running a fundraiser at Laser Craze in North Andover to try and raise $400.00. The cost is $12.00 and Field Hockey gets $4.00 for every $12.00 ticket sold. PAA Approved.
Fund
Requests:
Golf Coach, Jayne Martinese has asked for $250.00 to help defray costs associated with a River Rat Tournament cookout. Pentucket is required to host this tournament every so many years. PAA Approved.
Track Coach, Steve Derro asked for $990.00 for Runaways instant runner roll out rubber mat for long jump and hurdles (indoors). PAA Approved.
Ivars Jacobsons requested that PAA contribute $1,500.00 for new basketball hoops at the Middle School (the freshman teams practice and play at the middle school). Basketball Boosters will contribute the remaining $4,000.00 for the hoops. PAA Approved.
Girls Basketball will host the River Rivals Tournament. They were able to get bank sponsorships for the scholarships to be given. Pentucket will host girls this year and boys next year.
Grant Writer:
Discussion was had about hiring someone
to write grants for Pentucket athletics.
Varsity Jackets: Dan Thornton reported that he was low on
jackets that we give out to first time varsity players. Discussion was had about how many kids
actually use the jacket. The group
concensus was that no one uses the jacket and PAA voted to eliminate the
jackets.
Apparel: Monique Swansen questioned whether Pentucket got any profit from the sales on the Pentucket high school website. The answer is no. Discussion was had about connecting with one vendor and having all sports teams and booster clubs use that vendor to perhaps get a greater discount on apparel. Monique was going to inquire with a company she is familiar with in Manchester.
Current balance in PAA account is $19,425.50.
Meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
