MINUTES OF PAA MEETING May 6, 2009

 

Attendance:  Larry Fisher, Marie J. Meehan, Dan Thornton, Renee Llorente, Elaine Poretta, Marie Pinzone, Liz Babeu, Phyllis Nolan, Cindy Adams, Laurie LeBlanc

 

 

Received $7,350.00 from the Spinathon.  Work on getting coaches to motivate kids for next year.  The money goes directly to athletics.

 

Update on Keon’s cookbook fundraiser.  Flyers went out to Donahue and Middle School students. 

 

Request from Mrs. Fiore on behalf of her son, Matt who was playing in the Schriner’s football game for a donation for an advertisement from PAA.  Motion allowed and PAA will donate $50.00.

 

Three students from Mr. Potenza’s tech drawing class, Zack Eddy, Mike Nolan and John Gavin presented plans for a new press box.  Zack Eddy’s design was chosen and group asked for a materials list to be presented so we could see what cost would be.  Mr. Potenza said he would get this to us at next meeting.

 

Dan Thornton reported that the middle school outdoor track has been deemed unsafe and no longer can be used for home meets.  He mentioned a program called “Nike Grind” where schools collect sneakers and recycle them into track material.  Track team was going to do drive to collect sneakers.

 

Tennis courts in tough condition as well.

 

Dan reported that Masco, Wilmington and North Andover are petitioning to move out of the Cape Ann League to the Middlesex League. 

 

Laurie LeBlanc reported that 19 applications were received for the PAA scholarships.  The committee was taking applications home for review and meeting in a week to make decision about recipients.

 

Marie Pizzone wanted to remind group about the need for someone from PAA to volunteer to organize workers for the football concession stand. Anyone interested in this task? 

 

Next meeting June 10, 2009  (due to graduation award ceremony on June 3, 2009)
