Agenda
Scholarship Committee
Meeting Monday, May 12 to review applications. Finalist’s names will be sent to the guidance office before May 27th.
Football Concession Stand
Cathy Crawford has prepared a handbook for the outdoor concession stand with guidelines on how to run and maintain the stand during the football season. At Cathy’s suggestion we are looking for volunteers, 3 to 4 people who are willing to run the concession stand during the season (7 or 8 games). We need several volunteers to ease the work load of purchasing of products, help with set up, cook the hot dogs and coordinate volunteers. If you would like to help out PLEASE let the PAA know by emailing pentucketathleticassoc@gmail.com. The outdoor concession stand is one of PAA’s main fundraisers – raising $2,000 - $3,000 during the season.
PAA would like to thank Cathy for all her hard work running the concession stand the last few years.
Spring Sports Books
Books are almost sold out. Additional books will be re-ordered if they are prepaid.
Renee Llorente and Elaine Poretta will continue to be responsible for the selling of advertising space and co-coordinating the Sports books for the 2008/2009 season.
Scam regarding the Sports Books/ Football Calendar was discussed. Several people have been contacted by someone claiming to be selling advertising space for the books or the football calendar. Dan Thornton will have a letter drafted and sent out to all advertisers informing them that this request is not legitimate. The police departments in the three towns have been notified.
Soda Machines
Profits from the soda machines are down this year and Kevin Sullivan was wondering about the economic viability of the machines. Request made that the timer on the water/Gatorade machine be turned off so that students/staff can purchase water /Gatorade during the school day as well as during the summer for those who participate in camps. The timer on the soda machine will remain in use so that soda cannot be purchased during school hours.
Coaches
Marie Pinzone inquired what Pentucket’s policy is about the hiring, feedback and evaluation of athletic coaches in light of the recent newspaper articles about athletic coaches at Triton. Dan Thornton explained the policy re hiring at Pentucket. He welcomes feedback from athletes, parents and coaches. Given that this is his first year as the Athletic Director he will be setting up a system to evaluate coaches on a yearly basis. As the Athletic Director he does not have the authority to hire or fire coaches. Those decisions are made by the Superintendent.
Varsity Jackets and Plaques
We still have plenty of jackets in all sizes to cover the spring sports.
Discussion about whether to continue with the sports plaques that are presented to student athletes in their senior year. At a cost of approximately $2,400 a year those present voted to discontinue with the presentation of plaques.
Officers for Next Year?
Marie Meehan will be taking over the position of PAA secretary from Jill Daamen.
Thank you Marie!
