Larry Fisher
Follow up on Sport Book advertisers getting misleading correspondence from company affiliating themselves to Pentucket Regional High School. Larry Fisher contacted the Superintendent who, in turn, contacted Attorney General’s office. A complaint has been filed. The AG’s office asked for a list of all the advertisers who were contacted. Haverhill High School is having same problem.
The following people have volunteered their time to review the essays for the PAA scholarships:
Laurie LeBlanc; Elaine Poretta; Phyllis Nolan; Cindy Adams and Lynn Viselli
Discussion was had about developing a grading system to be used to judge the essays. Also, whether we should be checking for conduct and sportsmanship issues after selection. We need guidelines for awarding the scholarships. Former judges based their selection on the essays themselves and then discovered that recipients exhibited unsportsmanlike conduct. Group didn’t think bad behavior should be rewarded.
Dan Thornton
We discussed moving the banners in the gym to the other side of the gym behind the bleachers. Move the plaques with the player’s names to wall above where the scorekeepers sit. Talked about getting new banners. Perhaps sign material with nylon letters and numbers. Also discussed repainting the gym.
The press box is going to be renovated. Liz Babeu asked if there is any steel involved in the project and if so, her husband, Roger Babeu, would provide the steel at cost and provide the labor to install same at no charge.
Coach Derro has requested a new pole vault pad cover at a cost of $2,000.00. A motion was made and the motion was seconded and we approved this item pending Coach Derro explaining to PAA where the new pad is going to be stored? We want to make sure that the same thing that happened to the old pad doesn’t happen again.
Girls Lacrosse coach requesting $275.00 for a fee for a pre-season tournament on
March 22, 2009 in North Andover, MA. A motion was made and the motion was seconded and approved.
Dan mentioned that there has been some discussion about the sport fees being assessed at 100% next year due to budget constraints. Right now the ratio is 60/40. This was a very preliminary discussion so Dan didn’t want to alarm anyone just yet.
March 16, 2009 is the start of spring sports.
